Tourism / Discovery
Nestled in the heart of the Meuse region, Montmédy is a destination full of charm and history. Its main jewel is the 17th-century fortified citadel, designed by Vauban, which proudly overlooks the valley. As you stroll along its ramparts, you will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Inside the fortifications, don’t miss the museum dedicated to the painter Jules Bastien-Lepage, a native of the town.
The lower town, at the foot of the citadel, reveals beautiful old buildings, a lively small center and several excellent regional restaurants. You can easily follow the ramparts trail, a pleasant loop dotted with information panels and fun activities for both children and adults.
A few kilometers away, the village of Avioth impresses visitors with its majestic Gothic basilica, nicknamed the “Cathedral of the Fields.” Marville, another Renaissance gem, is also well worth a visit for its remarkable architecture and timeless atmosphere.
The surroundings of Montmédy invite you to relax, hike and enjoy cultural discoveries in a preserved and authentic region close to the Belgian border.
