This first section immerses you in the heart of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay. In Sains, the heights offer a beautiful view of the maritime bocage, while in Le Vivier-sur-Mer, life is organised around the rhythm of the tides and the alignments of wooden bouchot poles. It is a strategic stopover to start your journey along the granite stone coast.

To do:

• Mussel farming in Le Vivier-sur-Mer (2 hours): Board a mytili-mobile (an unusual vehicle) for a guided tour of the offshore mussel beds. The route takes you into the middle of the bouchots to understand the work of oyster and mussel farmers.

• Chappe Telegraph in Sains (1 hour): Walk along the trail leading to the summit of Mount Sains. This high point houses the functional reconstruction of a Chappe telegraph and reveals an unobstructed view over the entire bay.

• Bay coastal path (2 hours): Go for a hike along the Duchesse Anne dyke. The flat route stretches between salt marshes and polders, frequented by numerous colonies of seabirds.

PDO Mont-Saint-Michel bay bouchot mussels: Enjoy a pot of PDO bouchot mussels, cooked marinière-style with salted butter, shallots and local cider. Their sweet, yellow flesh makes the bay famous.

Following the Emerald Coast to the west, the landscape rises to the majestic Cap Fréhel. Dominated by pink sandstone cliffs over 70 metres high, this protected stopover is covered with vast heathland coloured with gorse and heather.

To do:

• Cap Fréhel and its Lighthouse: Walk along the marked paths through the heart of the bird reserve. Climb the steps of the Cap Fréhel lighthouse to enjoy an exceptional panorama stretching from the roadstead of Saint-Malo to the island of Bréhat.

• Fort La Latte (La Roche Goyon Castle) (2 hours 30): Follow the coastal footpath (GR34) on a hike connecting the cape to Fort La Latte. Visit this 14th-century fortified castle suspended above the sea.

• Beaches and Anse du Croc: Head down to the natural shores for a walk along the waves or a relaxing break facing the slate and schist reefs.

Craquant de Fréhel and farmhouse cider: Crunch into a craquant de Fréhel, an artisanal biscuit made with hazelnuts and salted butter caramel, ideally accompanied by a bowl of dry Breton cider.

Welcome to the Pink Granite Coast. Perros-Guirec is one of the most popular coastal stopovers, with its rocky chaos shaped by the elements and its sheltered coves. This resort is also the prime home port for observing seabirds in the national sanctuary.

To do:

• Ploumanac'h Customs Path (2 hours 30): Walk along the section of the GR34 winding between the pink granite blocks. Observe the Men Ruz lighthouse and the monumental rock formations bordered by the sea.

• Sept-Îles Archipelago by passenger boat (3 hours): Board from Trestraou beach for a boat trip to France's oldest nature reserve. You will see northern gannets, guillemots and grey seals.

• Traouïéro Valley: Head beneath the tree canopy for a hike through this dried-up underwater valley, dotted with rocky chaos and Breton legends.

Buckwheat galette with Churn Butter: Savour a crispy buckwheat galette filled with Guémené andouille sausage, egg and grated cheese, browned on the griddle with semi-salted butter.

This stage forms the transition between the Finistère coastline of the Côte des Sables and the inland relief of Haut-Léon. From Cléder, renowned for its long white sandy beaches and granite boulders, you will reach Sizun, a key stopover at the gateway to the Armorique Regional Natural Park.

To do:

• Cléder Beaches and Rocks (2 hours): Take a bike ride along the coast, from the harbour of Poulennou to the château of Kergounadeach. Admire the customs house embedded in the rock at Amiets.

• Sizun Parish Close (1 hour 30): Take a guided tour of this exceptional architectural ensemble including a Kersanton stone triumphal arch, an ossuary and the Saint-Suliau church.

• Drennec Lake: Walk around the lake or enjoy a touring kayak session. This site offers a very peaceful setting at the foot of the Monts d'Arrée.

Kig Ha Farz: Taste Kig Ha Farz, the traditional speciality of Léon consisting of beef and pork slow-cooked with vegetables, served with its puddings cooked in cloth bags (made with buckwheat and wheat flour).

Head south in Finistère to park your vehicle in Pont-l'Abbé, the cultural capital of the Bigouden region. Crossed by its tidal river opening onto a vast ria, the town stands out with its unique inhabited bridge and its attachment to Breton traditions.

To do:

• Castle of the Barons du Pont and Bigouden Museum (2 hours): Visit this former 14th-century fortified castle overlooking the river. The exhibition rooms trace the history of traditional costumes, the famous Bigouden headdresses and local embroidery.

• Pont-l'Abbé River Towpath (2 hours): Go for a walk along the path bordering the estuary to Chevalier Island. The route offers the chance to observe egrets and sandpipers at low tide.

• The Inhabited Bridge and the Covered Market (1 hour): Stroll through the historic centre to cross one of the few built-upon bridges in France and discover the stalls of local produce merchants.

Kouign-Amann: Enjoy a slice of artisanal Kouign-Amann served warm, this iconic flaky pastry cake made from bread dough, semi-salted butter and caramelised sugar.

Located at the entrance to the roadstead of Lorient, the coastal resort of Larmor-Plage offers an ideal seaside stopover combining long fine sand beaches with an open panorama of the Atlantic. It is a very pleasant stage offering a breath-taking view of the Port-Louis citadel and the island of Groix.

To do:

• Walk from Port-Maria to the beaches: Walk along the seafront on a paved promenade connecting the different beaches. Observe the ballet of fishing boats and sailing boats crossing the channel.

• Notre-Dame de Larmor Church: Discover this 16th and 17th-century fortified church. Its interior houses remarkable carved altarpieces and maritime ex-votos, testifying to the devotion of local sailors.

• Water Sports and Stand-Up Paddleboarding (2 hours): Hire a paddleboard or a kayak to navigate along the cove of Toulhars and sail past the 19th-century seaside villas.

Lorient-style Cotriade: Savour a cotriade, the traditional Breton bouillabaisse made with the day's prime fish (conger eel, hake, sea bream) poached with potatoes and served on slices of garlic bread.

On the border between Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique, the Pénestin stopover marks the passage towards the Vilaine estuary. The town is world-renowned for its geological site of La Mine d'Or, where impressive golden cliffs overhang the ocean.

To do:

• Cliffs of La Mine d'Or (2 hours): Walk along the coastal path at the top of the cliffs tinged with ochre, yellow and bronze. This hike offers splendid views, especially at sunset when the rock lights up.

• Vilaine Estuary at Le Tréhiguier: Explore the small harbour of Le Tréhiguier and its Mussel Farming Museum (Maison de la Mytiliculture) to understand the work of mussel farmers on the estuary's mudflats.

• Pointe du Scal (2 hours): Take the tracks for a cycle ride through hamlets and marshes to the panorama overlooking the mouth of the river.

Saint-Michel Galettes & Salted Butter Caramel: Enjoy shortbread biscuits born on the surrounding coast or spread a warm crêpe with creamy salted butter caramel flavoured with fleur de sel from nearby salt marshes.

To round off this circuit in style, the route heads into the Heart of Brittany, between Morbihan and Côtes-d'Armor. The medieval town of Josselin, set on the banks of the Oust, echoes the green setting of Plémet, at the foot of the Mené hills.

• Castle and Medieval Town of Josselin (2 hours 30): Visit the majestic Josselin Castle, a Renaissance masterpiece with its imposing towers reflecting in the Nantes-Brest Canal. Stroll through the old Sainte-Croix district with its timber-framed houses.

• Green Way of the Nantes-Brest Canal (2 hours): Take the cycle path by bike to travel along the flat, shaded towpath along the canal starting from the port of Josselin.

• Mount Bel-Air and Plémet Trails (2 hours): Hike up to the highest point of Côtes-d'Armor near Plémet. The panorama takes in the wooded valleys of Mené and the bocage of inland Brittany.

Guémené Andouille and Pays d'Oust cider: Savour a few slices of Guémené andouille sausage, recognisable by its concentric circles of pork chitterlings, accompanied by a glass of artisanal cider from the Josselin area.
