Mormoiron is an ancient fortified village offering the perfect blend of medieval and Provençal atmosphere. The bell tower overlooks the village and bears witness to its historic character and important architectural heritage. The town is renowned for its ancient ochre quarries, which are now an ideal playground for hikers and explorers. The quarries are set in the heart of an undergrowth of changing colours, reflecting the nuances of ochre, from ivory to brick red. A 13.5 km trail allows you to discover this incredible setting, which exists thanks to the ochre mining that came to an end after its heyday in the 19th century. A stunning view of Mont Ventoux awaits you from the quarry. Just 200 m from the campsite, the Salettes lake is a great recreation area with a treetop adventure course, hiking and mountain biking trails, beach volleyball, etc. Fishing is possible all year round, provided you have a fishing licence. In summer, it is the ideal spot for a supervised swim. The ‘Sables de Mormoiron’ orienteering trail is an excellent way to explore this green setting in a playful way. Picnic tables and a snack bar are also available for a relaxing moment in this ‘Espace Naturel Sensible’ (Sensitive Natural Area). Its aim is to preserve the quality of the natural landscape. The Mormoiron museum, located in the town centre, reveals the natural heritage of the surroundings through geology, paleontology and archaeology. Set in a cultural centre, you can also enjoy the Arts room and library.
