The town of Val-du-Layon, 25 km south of Angers, is the vestige of an important medieval past, right in the heart of the Anjou vineyards. As France's third-largest wine-growing region, the Loire Valley is an ideal wine destination! Visit the many vineyards and taste high-quality wines just outside Val-du-Layon. The Vine and Wine Museum of Anjou, located in the town centre, will help you learn more about the region's pride. Unique in France, its wine cellar features many different wines. Some bottles even date back more than a century and a half!
The Vendée War, a significant battle during the French Revolution, arrived at the town's gates. The remains of the Château de Haute-Guerche, built between the 13th and 14th centuries, overlook the Loire Valley. They symbolise the glorious past of the former military fortress and are now open to visitors all year round!
Fancy some fresh air? The region is also at the centre of a large number of trails through countryside and rivers! Enjoy the hiking trails, such as the GR3 or the one between the vines, from which you can admire the relief of the vineyards. If you're looking for a higher view, the Moulin-Guérin lookout point or the Corniche Angevine offer a breathtaking panorama over the Loire Valley!
