Tourism / Discovery

Less than 30 km from Montpellier, Frontigan is located on the Thau archipelago, in an exceptional setting between salt marshes and Mediterranean sea. Water is everywhere in Frontignan, with canals, ponds, salt marshes and the Mediterranean, this destination promises a total change of scenery. No fewer than 7 km of beaches face the Mediterranean and enjoy sunshine all year round. Stroll along the barrier beach of Frontignan, a magnificent strip of land separating the sea from the ponds, with splendid sandy or pebble beaches, giving a feeling of being at the end of the world. Frontignan's former salt marshes are now a great place to admire the local flora and fauna. There are superb viewpoints from which to observe around a hundred species of bird, including pink flamingos, black-winged stilts, ducks and terns. If you follow the 15.5 km "Étangs et salins" trail on foot or by bike, you'll be sure to take full advantage of all the wonders this wetland has to offer. The Muscat vineyards stretch across almost the entire territory, between plains and hills, with the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the Gardiole massif to the north. This explains the town's reputation as the world capital of Muscat. In July and August, numerous events are organised in the town around this wine. The streets of Frontignan wind around the town hall, offering views of the archaeological remains and the old ramparts from which the panorama is breathtaking. All of these elements bear witness to the local heritage. Take a stroll along the Canal du Rhône à Sète. The municipal museum will transport you back in time. Housed in the former chapel of the white penitents, it features a series of exhibitions and a panorama of life in Frontignan from prehistoric times to today. A number of themes are covered: underwater archaeology, jousting, working the vines and cooperage. The city of Sète is only 6 km away and offers a wealth of cultural and culinary treasures. Its historic centre, harbour, famous Cadre Royal, beaches, Mont Saint-Clair and its viewpoint, and the Pointe Courte neighbourhood make it an atypically charming peninsula worth exploring.
