Description :
Located between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, under the Cévenol reliefs of the National Park, the Grotte de Trabuc is a major cave of the destination.
Known since Antiquity, as evidenced by prehistoric bones found on site, it was also used in the 17th century during the Cévennes War (Reformation) as a refuge by the Camisards. Its name dates back to the 19th century, when the "Trabucaires", bandits equipped with a "Trabuc" (pistol with a large mouthpiece) took refuge in the cave.

Tourism / Discovery
Alès is 45 km from Nîmes and less than 100 km from Montpellier. It is the capital of the Cevennes and is known to be the main gateway to this area which is a listed Unesco World Heritage site.
During your stopover in Alès, you can enjoy a show, visit a museum, go to the shops, cool down in one of the shaded blossoming parks, or even enjoy Alès beach (opposite the site) when it's the summer season! Go and meet the producers and taste local specialities (Cevennes chestnuts, honey, fougasse with fritons...).
As you wander through the town, you will see religious buildings like comme la Alès Saint-Jean-Baptiste Catherdral or Gleisette Abbey ruins on Saint Germain de Montaigu hill (XIIIth Century).
