Tourism / Discovery

Hendaye town centre reveals a more authentic, everyday side of the resort. Around Saint Vincent’s Church, discover the shopping streets, houses with traditional Basque façades and lively squares where local markets and festivities take place. As you make your way down towards the Bidassoa River, you will reach Caneta Harbour. This former port offers a beautiful view over the Bay of Txingudi and the ramparts of Hondarribia, located directly opposite on the other side of the border. The path running along the bay makes for a pleasant walk or cycle ride. The town centre is also a great place to explore Hendaye’s border history. Opposite the railway station, the Moorish-style villa where Pierre Loti once stayed recalls the town’s rich cultural past. Nearby, the international bridge and Pheasant Island bear witness to the centuries-old relationship between France and Spain.
