Tourism / Discovery
Located 25 km south of Pau, Buzy offers rolling countryside, noble houses and large farms. At the gateway to the Ossau valley, it extends to the piedmont plateau of the Pyrenees.
Buzy is a great place to explore the archaeological sights such as several dolmens and the rock known as ‘Caillou de Téberne’ marking the entrance to the Ossau valley. Follow the ‘Tour du dolmen’ itinerary to make sure you don’t miss one. Departing from the Prat square, this pretty loop around the piedmont takes you through groves and pastures, sunken lanes and lookout points.
There are other footpaths you can follow, such as the discovery trail or ‘Les Chênes’. The latter circles Buzy for 3,8 km, immersing you in the forest and countryside of the Pyrenean foothills. If you would rather go on a bike ride, try the ‘Croix de Buzy / Bescat’ route. Over 9.7 km, it reveals rolling countryside and great views over the entrance to the Ossau valley.
A few monuments are well worth a visit: the church of Saint-Saturnin is now part of the General Inventory of French Cultural Heritage. The inside features a magnificent altarpiece dating from the 16th century. The ‘Gentilhommière de Lassalle’ bears witness to the prosperity of the inhabitants during the 16th century. This majestic noble house dates back to the Renaissance period. There are also 5 wash houses throughout the village.
