Tourisme / Découverte

Dive into the heart of the moors with a stopover in Saint-Julien-en-Born! Stroll through the town's charming streets and warm atmosphere. Discover the neo-Gothic church of Saint-Julien, built in the early 20th century. Stop off at the local market to discover the products of the Landes region, many of which are based on duck, the region's king animal. You can also sample some delicious wines. Saint-Julien-en-Born is situated in a magnificent region, between the Landes forest and the Atlantic Ocean, which will delight both hiking enthusiasts and tourists who have come to enjoy the beach. The seaside resort of Contis is attached to the town, offering facilities to make the most of the Atlantic coast. The beach at Contis, which is within walking distance, is renowned in the region for its sand and blue water. There are surf schools and ice-cream parlours to enjoy the friendly atmosphere found throughout the Landes basin. Just a stone's throw from the beach, you can admire the only lighthouse in the Landes: the Contis lighthouse. Listed as a Historic Monument, its unusual black colour is a real help to daytime navigation. At the top, you can admire the separation between ocean, sand dunes and lush forest. On a clear day, you might even be able to see as far as the Spanish coast! For the more sporty of you, the Vélodyssée route passes right by the town. You can take advantage of these pleasant paths either up towards the Arcachon Basin or down towards the Basque Country! Nearby, you'll find other tourist resorts in the Landes, each with its own identity! Visit Mimizan and its bell tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in Sainte-Marie Abbey, it is thought to have been built in the 12th century. It is now an essential stage on the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela via the Soulac Way, an alternative route to the four main French routes used since the 12th century.
