Le Dorat, the capital of the former province of Basse-Marche, is classified as a "Petite Cité de Caractère®," offering an exceptional heritage. The Collegiate Church of Saint-Pierre (12th-13th centuries), fortified in the 15th century, is one of the most imposing in central France. It is topped with a golden angel (12th century) and houses the relics of Saints Israel and Theobald, protectors of the town.
Strolling through the picturesque streets, you will discover the Porte Bergère, the only fortified gate in Haute-Vienne dating from the 15th century, as well as mansions from the 17th and 18th centuries. The Santillana del Mar Garden (Ramparts Garden) offers a breathtaking view of the surroundings and is an ideal place for relaxation.
