Tourism / Discovery
Just a 30-minute drive from the Atlantic, the village of Tonnay-Boutonne in the Charente is in the heart of the former County of Saintonge.
With almost 12 km of waterways, this family destination has a significant natural heritage, between streams, rivers and canals. The Boutonne river offers beautiful fishing spots to find trout, pike-perch, pike, roach… Along the river, you can also take advantage of a 2.5 km long bucolic path between the bridge of Tonnay-Boutonne and the lock of L’Houmée. More than 100 km of paths will take you on a discovery of the surrounding rural scenery, on foot or by bike: Chantemerle sur la Soie, Torxé Moulin or the 8 Saint-Loup les Petites Rivières circuit.
A small fortified town from the Middle Ages, the village gate is an impressive monument to its medieval past. The height of the two gothic towers shows the importance of this ancient town.
Tonnay is also located 20 km from Rochefort (Town of Art and History). The town is the birthplace of the Hermione, also known as the « frigate of freedom ». Beautiful monuments are a must to discover this destination: Pierre Loti’s house, the 18th century Italian theatre…
