Green and wooded setting
Tourism / Discovery
About thirty kilometers from Royan, the Île Madame is the smallest of the four islands in Charente. Reachable only at low tide by taking the « Passe aux boeufs », a submersible road accessible on foot, by bicycle, by car and of course… by motorhome! This wild island offers an exceptional panorama for a perfect stay in nature.
Once there, follow the coastal path to explore every corner of the island. Discover the small coves and enjoy superb views of the Charente estuary. Observe all the wooden cabins perched above the ocean that are the emblematic landscape of the Charente-Maritime!
Île Madame is renowned for its many fishing spots. Check the tide times and the high tides to have the best chance of gathering shellfish and oysters.
Right next to the campsite, discover the Fort and the bunkers. Former protectors of the Rochefort Arsenal, they now house a museum. All the secrets of the island will be revealed to you and exhibitions explain all about its flora and fauna. To make sure you don’t miss anything, book a guided tour of the island with the Rochefort Océean Tourist Office.
The fish farm (ferme Aquacole) welcomes you to present the culture of salt and samphire. This is a unique opportunity to taste delicious seafood directly from the producer.
