15 km north of Caen, Hermanville-sur-Mer is one of the 4 seaside resorts in the urban community of Caen la Mer. The ‘Le Matelot’ monument was erected on the Place du Courbet as a tribute to the Norwegian sailors who fell just before the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944.
