Tourism / Discovery

Lesaka is a village located in northern Navarre, in the Cinco Villas – Bortziriak region. Surrounded by mountains, it is not only close to the sea, but also to cities such as San Sebastián and Pamplona. In fact, it borders to the north on Irun (Gipuzkoa) and the Bidasoa River, which separates it from Bera; to the east on Etxalar; to the west on Oiartzun (Gipuzkoa); and to the south on Igantzi, Arantza and Artikutza. Moreover, although it does not directly border the municipality, the French border lies only a few metres from the municipal territory. The Bidasoa River flows through this peaceful landscape. While on its right bank runs the road connecting Pamplona to Irun, on its left bank remain, partly hidden, the vestiges of the now-disappeared “Tren Txikito”, the former Bidasoa railway, witness to many episodes of smuggling and adventure. Today, this former route has become the Bidasoa Greenway, a practically flat trail surrounded by green meadows and traditional farmhouses, highly recommended for cycling or walking. In this beautiful town founded in the 14th century, notable highlights include the “Plaza Zaharra”, with the manor houses surrounding it, the Carmelite convent, the Mikelenea house with its Gothic entrance and windows, the Onin River as it passes through Eskolttiki where, during the San Fermín festivities, the traditional “Zubigaineko” dance is performed, the Bordienea house with its remarkable stonework, the Church of Saint Martin of Tours, considered the most monumental in all of Navarre, as well as the Minyurinea and Zabaleta towers dating from the 14th and 15th centuries.
