Tourism / Discovery

Bar-le-Duc, the capital of the Meuse department, is a city full of history and heritage. The Upper Town is a true open-air museum, showcasing Renaissance architecture treasures. Wandering its cobbled streets, visitors can discover the Clock Tower, a remnant of ancient fortifications, and the Saint-Étienne Church, which houses the famous "Transi" sculpture by Ligier Richier. The Lower Town also has its charm, with bridges spanning the Ornain River and the canal, offering peaceful walks along the water. Don't miss the Barrois Museum, housed in the former Dukes of Bar castle, presenting a wide range of local history exhibits. Gourmets will love the town’s famous redcurrant jelly, delicately seeded by hand with goose feathers — a local delicacy since the 14th century, known as the "caviar of Bar."
