Motorhome area of Pontlevoy (Loir et Cher)

Located 25 km south of Blois, the motorhome stopover of Pontlevoy welcomes you to a charming village in the Loire Valley, between the provinces of Touraine and Sologne. The village centre is home to a rich architectural heritage of pretty old houses and picturesque alleyways. Follow the 25 signs of the ‘Musée dans la rue’ to discover daily life in Pontlevoy in the early 20th century. This street museum is the result of a selection of photos taken by Clergeau, a local photographer. The highlight of the show remains the Abbey of Pontlevoy, founded in 1034 by Gueldin, Lord of Saumur, Amboise and Chaumont. In the 18th century, it was considered to be one of the best preparatory schools for military academies. Visit the geological and paleontological site of the Faluns quarry and the Pontlevoy stone quarry. The latter has been used in the construction of many monuments, including the Abbey of Pontlevoy. Access to the quarry is free and guided by information signs. Follow the 4,5 km path from Pontlevoy to reach the ‘Pierre de Minuit’ dolmen and discover its legends and mythical stories. There are many gardens to see in the vicinity of the campsite, such as the Vaulx Saint Georges garden in Thésée (8km), the Pouzet garden in Couddes (10 km) and the Domaine garden in Chaumont-sur-Loire (12 km).
