On 25 August 1944, while Paris was celebrating its liberation, 124 inhabitants of the village of Maillé were massacred by German soldiers. What were the reasons for this massacre? Who committed it and why has it been forgotten? The Maison du Souvenir offers answers to all these questions.
Combining culture and education, the House of Remembrance is built around a 200m² permanent exhibition focusing on the little-known story of this other 25 August, and looking beyond this tragic event to the massacre of civilians. With over 250 documents, objects and films, this living memorial also traces the history of the Resistance in Touraine and France.
Families can take a specially adapted tour to help youngsters understand the crimes committed at Maillé during the Second World War. The visit will also help you discover the importance of personal commitment to civic action, especially in defence of peace.

Less than 5 kilometers, the Cabri educational farm welcomes you to its goat livestock farming. Discovery workshops are organised during school holidays.
Visit Crissay-sur-Manse, a village classified « Plus Beaux Villages de France » located 20 km from the site. Its town center and monuments are well worth a visit.
