Located at the crossroads of the Eure and Perche valleys, Châteauneuf-en-Thymerais is a charming town rich in history and heritage that is just waiting for your visit! The town played an important role over a millennium ago, during the various duchies of Normandy. Indeed, its geographical location made it a key place for all of Normandy. Founded around the 5th century, between Perche and what would become Normandy, you can imagine its former castle on the Motte Castrale of the town. Many hiking trails are accessible on the outskirts of the town, taking you through the Thymerais countryside, through groves and forests, for pleasant walks in a lush green setting. Châteauneuf-en-Thymerais is also a perfect stop to explore French heritage! Indeed, it is located less than 30 km from Chartres and Dreux, giving you the opportunity to discover their historical monuments! The most famous being the Notre-Dame de Chartres Cathedral, in Gothic style and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Completed during the 13th century, it has undergone various renovations over the centuries to become the masterpiece it is today. In Dreux, you can admire the Royal Chapel of Saint-Louis, the necropolis of the House of Orléans, a Capetian family that today claims the throne of France. You can also admire a multitude of buildings classified as Historic Monuments, such as the Saint-Pierre Church, Dreux Castle - a former royal castle - and the city's Belfry.
