Historic capital of the Morvan, the charming town of Château-Chinon is also known for its Musée du Septennat. The museum exhibits - among other things - official and personal gifts from the former mayor: François Mitterrand (mayor for 22 years).
Beyond the political heritage of the city, the Notre-Dame gate, vestige of an ancient rampart, and the Niki de Saint-Phalle fountain demonstrate the historical and artistic aspects of Château-Chinon. The latter is an original work of contemporary art quite surprising with its contrast between the structures' colours and the scrap metals, recalling the industrial machinery.
The Calvaire offers an incredible panoramic view of the town and the Morvan valley. Sit on a bench where the old castle used to stand, destroyed in 1477 during the battle of Nancy.
Discover the rich nature of the Morvan Regional Natural Park through the many hiking trails. Get to know all its secrets by cycling on the largest mountain biking route of France: La Grande Traversée du Morvan (GTM). You can also go on the Vélorail du Bazois Morvan. The route is largely wooded and accessible from April to October.
