Located between Burgundy and Franche-Comté, Auxonne boasts many facets well worth discovering. First of all, the Saône, which flows through the village, offers a wide range of outdoor activities. Cyclists can explore unexpected landscapes along the "Voie Bleue": two routes are accessible from Auxonne, offering 80 km of signposted cycle paths. Fishing lovers can catch fish in the Saône or in one of the streams that run through the region, such as the Vieille Saône, the Vingeanne, the Bèze, the Ognon... The town also boasts a rich historical heritage. Louis XI, Bonaparte and Vauban all passed through the village and left their mark. The arsenal built by Vauban will surely surprise you, as it is one of the rare arsenals to have been preserved in its entirety. The town of Auxonne also owes its historical renown to Napoleon Bonaparte, who stayed here from 1788 to 1791. The French emperor trained in artillery techniques here, and a statue of him stands in the Place d'Armes.
