Between Roanne (40km), Lyon Metropolis (45km) and Saint-Etienne (69km), Violay is a touristic village in the middle of the Matin mountains.
The village benefits from a splendid sight on the Forez plains, the Madeleine mounts and the Alps.
30 min walk from the village, follow a 14 km marked trail which crosses a douglas fir forest leading you to the Matagrin Tower.
The monument is 1004 meters high, between the Rhône and the Loire, rooted between heaven and earth on Mount Boussuivre, the highest point of the Monts du Lyonnais.
At the summit and from its viewpoint indicator with its splendid 360° overview, the tower overlooks the village of Violay, the Monts du Lyonnais, Beaujolais and Forez plains and offers a breathtaking view over 14 departments and the Mont Blanc chain.
From the tower : a paragliding take-off runway listed by the French Federation for Free Flight (FFVL) and a trail "De l'arbre au bois" guide you to through the douglas fir forest.
You can also benefit from many other touristic activities in Violay: an animal park and a playground, an adventure park vith more than 50 playful and sports activities, the Madone (located on a small ridge down the main street), a trail near the Fontbonne lake, a paperchase for the whole family "Randoland®" in order to discover the history of the village, a large picnic area under the pines, cani-hiking and photo sessions with Zou.Loups and his 7 huskies... So many natural areas that will delight young and old alike.
Finally, Violay has lots of local flavours to offer: goat's cheeses... Find them directly from the Matagrin Tower's shop, open from May to September on weekends and public holidays and every day in July and August.
The Violay producers' market is held on Tuesdays and Sundays all year round from 8am to 1pm on Place du monument.
