Orgnac-l'Aven is a peaceful village in the far south of the Ardèche department, close to the Rhône Valley, famous for its Orgnac cave, listed as a ‘Grand Site de France’. The Orgnac site includes the show cave, a majestic underground complex, and the ‘Cité de la Préhistoire’ (Prehistory museum), with its 350,000 years of archaeological remains from the Ardèche. The site is only 2 km from the campsite, so you can get there by bike. Visit the only underground site to be awarded for the sustainable and respectful management of an exceptional natural site. A real immersive experience awaits you in this landscape 121 m underground. The ‘Cité de la Préhistoire’, awarded the ‘Musée de France’ label, displays authentic objects from archaeological digs in the Ardèche and the northern part of the Gard department. This entertaining visit, with its games, fire demonstrations and other activities, will delight everyone. The village is also renowned for its wine-making. The local wine cooperative is one of the largest in Ardèche. The terroirs of Orgnac l'Aven were classified as AOC Côtes du Vivarais in 1999. Around 20 km from the campsite, head to the Ardèche gorges. This is the ideal place for hiking or canoeing, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the nature reserve. The lookout point of the Serre de Tourre offers one of the most stunning panoramic views. Also worth seeing: the Pont d'Arc, a natural arch 60 m high.
