The Department of Ain has reopened the Fleurville Bridge as of Thursday, March 20, 2025. You can reach the Pont-de-Vaux area via the D906 road, the former National Road 6, which connects Mâcon to Tournus. WARNING: For safety reasons, and in accordance with a departmental decision aimed at preserving the integrity of the bridge, access is strictly limited to vehicles not exceeding 3.5 tons in weight and 2.80 meters in height.

Discover the town of Pont-de-Vaux, just 20 km north of Macon! Crossed by the river Reyssouze, a tributary of the Saône just a few kilometres away, it gives the town a warm, peaceful atmosphere.
Take a stroll through the town centre and you'll discover a number of colourful houses and buildings of remarkable architectural quality. You can visit the Musée Chintreuil, dedicated to the internationally renowned landscape painter of the same name, who was born in the town. It is housed in a seventeenth-century town house, which also serves as the town hall.
Pont-de-Vaux also has a marina! You can admire the various boats from the bank on the town side, or from the various pontoons. Along the banks of the Reyssouze, the pond, the harbour, the canal and the Saône, water and greenery mingle, creating many charming and soothing vistas.
Pont-de-Vaux is also located in an area classified as Natura 2000: the flood meadows of the Val de Saône. These are renowned for being home to many different species of bird, some of them endangered. You can enjoy these amazing areas through a variety of relaxing trails: 5km south of the town, you'll find the Lande Tourbeuse des Oignons, a protected natural area dominated by callune, mullein and birch, consisting of a peat bog and ponds. It is a refuge for highly specific flora and fauna, including amphibians, the great crested newt and the tree frog. A signposted discovery trail leads around it.
Less than 10km north of the town, you'll also find the protected natural area known as ‘les Dunes des Charmes’, a landscape shaped by floods and the wind, a long way from the sea. Admire the surprising boundaries between sand, woodland and wetlands for an exceptional panorama.
The Maison de l'Eau et de la Nature, which shares the building with the Tourist Office, is the ideal place to discover the local flora and fauna. With its touch-screen terminals, tables and floors, the interactive, fun trail offers a unique, immersive experience for young and old alike.
